Bleeding Marlon Brando bumps against a multicolored, digital wall.<\/p>\n

Marlon Brando`s injured face disappears continuously behind
\nanimated, colored pixels, each one of them seperatedly animated.
\nThe scene is taken from the black-and-white film \u201eOn The Waterfront \u201c. The representation of blood in black and white movies is utterly abstract.
\nDigital coding of \u201eold \u201cmaterial enhances this effect, since here a monochrome photographic film reveals its \u201chidden\u201d colors. In order to show the decoding and to emphasize the black wound, I edited , digitized and partly destroyed the close ups of the bleeding face.
\nThis hereby created \u201cdecoding artefacts\u201d
\nresembling unlikely test pattern, which look like an abstract work of art.<\/p>\n

I chose takes from Elia Kazan\u00b4s movie \u201eOn The Waterfront \u201e
\nbecause the content of the movie (the desperate fight of the workers against a corrupt,
\nexploitative system) becomes visible in the expression on Marlon Brandos face
\nand opens an additional stream of meaning. The sound derives from image cuts and distortions, classical sound overlaped with digital interferences.
\nMy work \u201cOn The Waterfront 2.0\u201d shows my fundamental interest in \u201cthe dramatic\u201d.
\nMy process to create this video piece for me is like taking away the sugar coating in order to reveal what’s underneath: the medium itself finally becomes a tool. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
