“A journey through the South-Sami Lappish country- encounter with Sami tales and Yoiks”
2008, 14:47
This documentary was initially a search for traditional South-Lappish Yoik sounds for archival purposes. During my stay around the mythical Marsfjäll (alps) I was lucky to meet a few people, such as Elsa, a 78 year-old Sami woman who greatly shared her memories of Sami storytelling and their Yoiks with me. I got invited to her outmoded but homely habitat where she told me stories of her Reindeer herding background, serving me Reindeer meat while she tell tales and sing.
It gives the viewer an intimate and extraordinary moment with a lost art-inherited storytelling about the lives of your relatives, and original singing/Yoiking from Scandinavia’s indigenous Sami-people.
