Tinchi Tamba Wetlands

This work is an ode to my grandmother – the self appointed matriarch risen out of unresolved war trauma dating to WW2 prison camps. This strong, proud, peasant woman left many unwelcome marks on people around her but she loved me. She raised me and gave me the strength of character that has always ensured that I follow the banner of ‘I’ with complete integrity if not always with love.
She passed away in our home in Serbia in early 1998. By the time I returned home in June 1998 from Australia (after 12 years in Australia), weeds had taken to the crusty earth of her grave. Was she really dead?
In this performance I hold a funeral to my dear Serbian grandmother.
