Title:
Cut by the Paparazzi
2008, 2:47 (but looping)

Cut by the Paparazzi is a three-channel video (intended for installation) that explores relationships between the ubiquitous flash of the paparazzi camera, the infinite media loop, and the performance of modernist impulses through establishing systems of order evident in public and media ritual. The loop establishes visual relationships between the modernist grid and these technological phenomena—systems and technological objects become the agents of performing order. Unable to maintain stability within the regimented structure of the grid, the collective performance collapses, only to be reintroduced into the system by the only agent of order it knows—the camera. The video is composed almost entirely of found footage from the internet.
